Happy Monday to you! We hope your weekends were great and that you are excited for the week ahead. For this #MindfulnessMonday we are keeping on a similar track (pun intended) as last week and sharing another quote from a pop princess, Pink.
In her song, "Perfect", Pink urges us to "change the voices in your head, make them like you instead". Think about the things you say to yourself. How often are you critical? How often do you think negative things about yourself? Probably too often right? We all do it and it isn't fair. Instead of thinking, "I love my arms because I use them to hug my nephew" we think, "I hate my arms. They look fat and they're not even strong enough to do a handstand". Instead of thinking, "wow, I completed this project, that is something to be proud of" we think, "It took me too long to finish this, I am still behind all my friends, I am not where I should be in my life". Would you ever say that to a friend? Our guess is, no. When we speak to our friends we tell them how great they look, how proud we are of their accomplishments. We build them up. And not because we are just blowing smoke, but because we believe it, because we love them and we support them.
The time has come to start becoming our own best friends, to be our own supporters. We need to start building ourselves up from the inside out, instead of always tearing ourselves down. Will this be easy? No. Will it come naturally? No. But, you know what they say - fake it 'til you make it. Practice positive self talk. Practice talking to yourself like you would talk to your friend. Like we say in yoga, practice and all is coming.
We are going to make a conscious effort to change the voices in our head this week. We hope you can do the same. Have a good one!
