Happy Monday! We hope your weekends were great and that you are ready for the week ahead.
For today's #MindfulnessMonday we want to talk about frustration. How often do you get frustrated? We can admit that we get frustrated many times in a day (probably too many times) on little things, like missing the subway by one second (so annoying!) or being unable to untangle our necklace (argh!) or waiting longer than we would like for a coffee (geez!). These are little moments that can be aggravating, but this week, we want to challenge you to turn your frustration into motivation for both the big and the small moments.
For example, you're frustrated because you missed the subway. Instead of getting into a huff and thinking about how you'll be late and you'll have to rush etc. take that extra time to practice mindfulness. Take a couple of deep breaths and center yourself for the rest of your day.
For the bigger frustrations, it might take more than a few deep breaths. For example, let's say you're frustrated because you have a weak handstand practice. Let's take stock of the situation: do you practice handstands regularly? Have you sought out help from someone who has a strong practice? Have you read tips or watched videos online and tried them out on your own? Have you worked though progressions? If any answer is no, then you cannot really be frustrated because you haven't taken the steps to even try to improve. So, instead of feeling frustrated, we can take the negative emotion and fuel it towards a positive one, motivation! Let the fact that you're struggling with something propel you to be better and stronger.
While it may seem easy to think about a handstand example, this idea applies even when we look at more difficult situations like trying to quit smoking, lose weight, or get promoted. We have to be really honest with ourselves and say, "Am I doing the work? Am I taking all the steps I need to take to achieve this goal?" Until, the answer is yes, then our frustration is just a waste of energy.
So, this week, we encourage you to turn your frustrations into motivation. Let your frustration empower you to achieve whatever it is you are seeking. Like yogis always say – practice and all is coming. Maybe not this week, or this month or even this year, but if you keep working towards your goal, you will achieve it.
