Happy Monday to you! We hope your weekends were great and that you are excited for the week ahead. For this #MindfulnessMonday we are keeping on a similar track (pun intended) as last week and sharing another quote from a pop princess, Pink.
In her song, "Perfect", Pink urges us to "change the voices in your head, make them like you instead". Think about the things you say to yourself. How often are you critical? How often do you think negative things about yourself? Probably too often right? We all do it and it isn't fair. Instead of thinking, "I love my arms because I use them to hug my nephew" we think, "I hate my arms. They look fat and they're not even strong enough to do a handstand". Instead of thinking, "wow, I completed this project, that is something to be proud of" we think, "It took me too long to finish this, I am still behind all my friends, I am not where I should be in my life". Would you ever say that to a friend? Our guess is, no. When we speak to our friends we tell them how great they look, how proud we are of their accomplishments. We build them up. And not because we are just blowing smoke, but because we believe it, because we love them and we support them.
The time has come to start becoming our own best friends, to be our own supporters. We need to start building ourselves up from the inside out, instead of always tearing ourselves down. Will this be easy? No. Will it come naturally? No. But, you know what they say - fake it 'til you make it. Practice positive self talk. Practice talking to yourself like you would talk to your friend. Like we say in yoga, practice and all is coming.
We are going to make a conscious effort to change the voices in our head this week. We hope you can do the same. Have a good one!
Happy Monday! How are you all? We hope you're doing super well. So, unless you have been living in a parallel universe you know Beyonce launched her new visual album, Lemonade, last week. To say some of us over here are obsessed might be an understatement. We could talk about every little detail for hours, but for today we will stick to one line that we think is apropos for this #MindfulnessMonday.
In the song, "Freedom", Beyonce says, "Ima keep running 'cause a winner don't quit on themselves". Hear it again, "a winner don't quit on themselves". How many times do we not only quit on ourselves, but we defeat ourselves before we even start? Samara recently touched on this in a Facebook video about limiting beliefs. As Samara mentioned, our thoughts become our beliefs and our beliefs become our actions, which come to make up our lives. So, if we constantly tell ourselves, "I can't do that" or "this is my limit" and we internalize obstacles and challenges as the end of the line, then that's what they will be.
If on the mat, we told ourselves, "I can't do this pose" whether it is hanumanasana (split), or savasana, we likely never would because we wouldn't even bother trying. But, if we can tell ourselves and think that we can then it is more likely that we will. It is the same with everything else in our lives. If you want to change your career path, you can! If you want to move to another country, you can! If you want to start meditating, you can! There will certainly be challenges and road blocks, but almost anything is possible, so long as you don't stop yourself before you even start.
So, when limiting beliefs enter into your mind this week, try to remember one thing: Be Yonce. Be a winner. Be the champion of your own life.
